Advanced Rules of Blackjack

Don’t let the title fool you, even the advanced rules of blackjack are easy to get to grips with. There are just a few terms and betting opportunities you should learn to greater your chances of beating the dealer and making a profit.

Split
Two identical face cards can be split and played as two hands. You should place both cards face up and slightly apart, although for online gambling you just press the split button. If the cards were dealt face up, you should say split when the dealer comes to you.

Your original stake is placed on one card and you must place the same value stake on the other. Each card is then played as though it is a separate hand. This gives excellent opportunity for a blackjack or two winning hands.

Double Down
If the total of your first two cards is 10 or 11 then you may ‘double down’. This means you can bet the same amount as your original stake thus doubling the amount you are betting. You only get one hit though, and then you are forced to stand.

Insurance
In blackjack, you are offered the opportunity to place insurance if the dealer has a face up card of an Ace. You are essentially betting half of your original stake that the dealer will get a blackjack. If they do you get your insurance returned plus the same amount again as winnings. There is no financial gain and no financial loss if this happens, however if the dealer doesn’t get blackjack you lose your insurance and play resumes.
