Peaches and Cream Southern Tea Party

Under: Drinks

I’m sure by now you’ve heard that the south has the best tea around, that is if you like sweet tea. If you’ve never tried southern tea, the summer time is the best time to go down and find yourself a glass. Got any new neighbors? Why not welcome them into the neighborhood with a good old fashion Southern Party? It doesn’t take much to prepare one and you can keep it simple if you like, or go all out.

Most Southern tea parties normally begin right around noon and can last an hour or longer. If you are hosting the party, make sure you sent out the invites at least a week or two ahead of time. This way everyone can make sure they are there, after all this is one party the women aren’t going to want to miss. Make sure to have plenty of tea and other refreshments, just in case someone doesn’t actually like tea. I know, I know, what a thought, but it happens. Plus, your new neighbors may want to bring over their child if they have one.

The invitations can be pink or peach in color, with tiny tea cups on them or maybe in the shape of a small bonnet. The color scheme should be peaches and cream. Unless you plan on taking the party outside, which you should go with a pale yellow and right under an old oak tree.

Some items you want to make sure are on your menu are sandwiches, scones, a dessert and of course your tea. Try adding a selection of tea, you may even want to see if everyone can bring their favorite types of tea and have a small tea testing. This way everyone can experience something new. Always make sure there are two different types of finger sandwiches to choose from.

Now if you’ve never been to a Southern Tea Party or even had southern tea, don’t be shocked when you see ice cubes floating around in it. This may be your first time, but it won’t be your last. The heat is a killer and the ice is so refreshing, when you take a drink you’ll fall back into a time where everything stood still and you’ll wish you never wake up.

Menu Ideas:
Tea sandwiches
Peach cobbler
scones
Ice cream
Peaches and cream

Tea:
Peach tea
Ice tea
Apricot tea

Each of these teas can be found in a number of stores near you. Follow the directions on the box and you’ll have a lovely cup of tea. As for a parting gift, you can purchase bonnets to give to each guests and include a tea basket to go with each. Inside the tea basket should be a small mug, recipe card, some tea bags, maybe a small tea book, a stirring spoon and a packet of sugar. Now, how about showing some hospitality and invite me over for a tea party.
