Get Your Credit Cards to Work For You

Most people use a credit card on a daily basis. Whether it’s for gas at the pump or a costume for your daughter’s next dance recital, it’s easy to swipe and forget about it. If you’re always on time with your payments and pay your balance down quickly, you may think you are already using your credit cards to their full advantage. With the vast amount of options available on today’s credit cards, you may actually be able to get even more from your cards.

Almost everyone is familiar with earning credit card miles. This is still a fantastic idea if you are someone who travels frequently. Just be sure to find a card that earns you the most miles for the money you spend, and that those miles can be used when and how you need to use them.

These days you can earn more than air miles with your credit cards, though. Now there are credit cards that offer savings advantages that deposit money into a special savings account with each of your purchases. Even more popular are cards that earn points that can be redeemed for cash, gift cards, or merchandise.

Be sure to choose one or two rewards cards that have little or no annual fee, and then use those cards as much as you can to reap the full benefits of the rewards. Just remember to pay your balance down each month to make sure you aren’t trading debt for points.
