Forget the Keywords – It’s all about Content: Using Google Ad Sense and other Pay-Per-Click Sites to Earn Some Money
After reviewing 100’s of websites and blogs using Google Ad Sense among other pay-per-click sites, it comes as little surprise, how many don’t understand the concept of Content, yet still expect to make money using these services. Focusing on keywords seems to be a trend amongst most webpage creators. Everyone thinks that if they research the best and most frequently used keywords, they will get visitors to their site, and begin to see money piling up in their accounts. This however, is a thing of the past. There are tricks to the trade and it is not about keywords anymore. It is all about content.
The key to making money anywhere has to do with being smart, informative and helpful. You have to write smart pages and articles. Most people browsing around the Internet are not interested in how your day went, or that your dog ate your favorite pair of socks. If you are looking to make some money and draw readers in, the information provided needs to be useful. Exactly what keywords were you hoping to find in those paragraphs you wrote about your dog and your socks? Another trend seems to be republishing articles that have already been published elsewhere on major news sites, and that not only is not helpful or ethical, it will not generate what you want – money.
If someone clicks on your link, whether it’s to a blog entry or a website, you’ve accomplished step one. You’ve managed to peek interest. This begins with a great title. A catchy, keyword friendly title is important to capture the audience you are hoping for.
But this is not where it ends. It is only the beginning. Make the content of the article, webpage or blog entry match the title!
Begin with a well-written, informative “starter” paragraph. In other words, if you choose to write about dogs – pick a breed that you know something about and write a beginning paragraph describing what you are about to write about. This is basic English taught early on in life. Keep it informative. Make it worth reading! As you continue to write your paragraphs, give tips, advice, and important information. That is your content. That is what is important. If your content is pointless and doesn’t capture your reader or contain information that the reader finds useful, fun or informative, it isn’t going to generate more interest, let alone the type of ads on your site that you’re looking for. You want people to read your page, and then visit some of the referring sites that these pay-per-click sites provide! If your content doesn’t match your title, the ads displayed on your website won’t be any good. And if your content isn’t worth reading, how are you going to get people to stay long enough to click on anything, let alone an ad.
It is important to recognize that you are not getting paid to write, with pay-per-click sites, as some I have noticed seem to think. Having a Google AdSense or other pay-per-click account and generating well-written, informative content earn the money. This will then generate ads on your blog entry that coincide with your topic (usually). This then might lead the reader to click on these links. Ad Sense pays you per click. And no, you cannot click on your own links. Google will suspend your account and you will get nothing – but hey – give it a try if you don’t believe me.
The key to making money through pay-per-click sites is to first not assume it’s a get rich quick thing. And the second and most important, is CONTENT – CONTENT, CONTENT. Keywords are no longer of any importance to anyone but maybe the actual content creator. It is more important to make your webpage or blog entry content informative, helpful and readable! This my friend, is where the money is at.
